Tablut Siege
An asymmetric Viking siege on a 9x9 board: lead the king to a corner or hunt him down with sixteen attackers. Climb seven chieftains, solve a daily siege, play a friend and unlock board styles.
Tablut Siege is a two-sided Viking board game on a 9 by 9 grid. One side commands sixteen dark attackers ringed around the edges, while the other has eight defenders and a golden king on the central throne. Every piece slides like a rook, and the sides want completely different things, so each match plays like a small siege story.
Defenders win when the king reaches a corner square, or any edge square in the optional edge-escape rule. Attackers win by sandwiching the king between two pieces, or surrounding him on all sides when he stands on the throne. Ordinary pieces are captured by being trapped between two enemies, and the throne and corners count as hostile squares. Seven chieftains wait on the ladder, from Rolf, who wanders at random, to Ragnar the Old, who searches many moves deep and spots forks that threaten two escape routes at once. Play either side, undo moves, buy hints with coins, and earn XP, goals and a daily streak. The Daily Siege starts from a scrambled opening with a twist such as thin siege, royal guard or edge dash, for up to three stars. Five board styles unlock as you level up.
It suits fans of chess, checkers and classic strategy games who want something asymmetric, solo or in pass-and-play. Tip: as the defenders, open lines for the king before you move him, because two escape routes at once cannot both be blocked. As the attackers, guard the squares beside each corner first.
How to play
Slide pieces like rooks along rows and columns. Defenders: lead the king to a corner square (or any edge in edge-escape mode). Attackers: trap the king between two attackers, or on all four sides on the throne. Capture an enemy piece by closing it between two of your own. Beat each chieftain on the ladder to unlock the next, and clear the daily siege for stars.
Controls
- Mouse / tap: Tap a piece, then a green square to slide it
- Arrow keys + Enter / Space: Move the cursor and select
- U / Backspace: Undo your last move
- H: Hint (costs 15 coins)
- P / Esc: Pause
- M: Mute
