Captain a wooden sailing ship on a tropical sea: ride the wind, scoop up loot crates, buy upgrades and sink rival pirate ships with cannon broadsides in a five-minute voyage.
Ship.io is a top-down pirate arena io game where you captain a small wooden sloop on a bright tropical sea dotted with sandy palm islands. Floating crates of gold drift everywhere, and sixteen named rival captains are out to grab them first. Sail over crates to fill your hold, then spend the gold on the fly to turn your little boat into a heavily armed warship.
The wind matters. Sailing with it at your back is fast, beam reaches are steady, and beating straight into it crawls, so a compass at the top of the screen shows where it blows and it shifts every half minute. Cannons fire broadside, out of the sides of your hull, so you have to turn your ship to bring the guns to bear. Click or tap FIRE and the side facing the nearest enemy goes off, or fire port and starboard yourself with Q and E. Upgrade Hull for health and extra masts, Cannons for more guns per side and range, Reload for faster volleys and Sails for speed. Sunk ships spill their loot, rivals come back better armed as the voyage goes on, and every two minutes the huge Dread Galleon appears with a fortune aboard.
Survive the five-minute voyage and finish in the top three for a big bonus. Coins earned unlock permanent hull, gunnery and rigging upgrades. Tip: circle a target side-on and keep your distance.
How to play
Steer your ship, collect floating gold crates and spend gold on Hull, Cannons, Reload and Sails upgrades. Cannons fire from the sides, so turn to line up a broadside. Sinking ships earns points and spills their loot. Your ship has one life: survive the five-minute voyage and finish high on the leaderboard for a bonus.
Controls
- Mouse / WASD / arrow keys: Steer the ship
- Click / Space: Fire the broadside facing the nearest enemy
- Q / E: Fire port / starboard cannons
- 1-4: Buy Hull, Cannons, Reload or Sails upgrades
- Touch: drag anywhere: Steer
- Touch: FIRE button / upgrade buttons: Fire a broadside / buy upgrades
- P / Esc: Pause
- M: Mute
- R: Restart after the voyage
