Reactor Panic
A control-room strategy game. Juggle five coupled gauges with rods, pumps, vents and scrubbers while a scheming grid dispatcher orders power swings and faults, then pick an upgrade between shifts.
Reactor Panic puts you at the controls of a nuclear plant in a tense control-room management game. Five dials show core heat, pressure, coolant, radiation and power output, and every action you take pushes several of them at once. Rods in cools the core but starves the grid, pumping coolant raises pressure, venting steam drops pressure but leaks radiation. Nothing is free, so every button press is a trade-off.
Your opponent is the grid dispatcher. It orders power swings that the output needle has to chase, and from the second shift on it plays dirty: it asks for more power exactly when the core is already hot and punishes long comfortable streaks with big reversals. A fault generator does the same, choosing pump failures, coolant leaks, xenon surges or jammed vents that hit where you are weakest. Both warn you a few seconds ahead, shown as a blue arc on the power dial and a countdown line, so a good operator prepares. Each shift is longer and faster than the last. Keep the needles green, match the demand band to earn streak multipliers, and stay out of the red or the meltdown bar fills. If the grid trust bar empties you are shut out with a blackout.
Between shifts you choose one of three plant upgrades, such as turbo pumps, filtered vents or forecast radar. It suits players who enjoy plate-spinning and pattern reading. Tip: keep one safety margin in reserve, and save SCRAM for real emergencies.
How to play
Use the panel buttons (or keys 1-6 and 0) to move the control rods, pump coolant, vent steam, divert power and scrub air. Hold the rod buttons to keep moving them. Steer POWER OUT into the green demand band to score, keep CORE HEAT, PRESSURE, COOLANT and RADIATION out of the red, and watch the warnings for incoming faults and grid orders. Survive each shift, then pick an upgrade. Meltdown or a grid blackout ends the run.
