Go Nine
Learn and play Go on a compact 9x9 board. Start with five short lessons, then climb a nine-rival ladder, take the daily challenge, or play a friend on one device.
Go Nine is a friendly introduction to the ancient board game of Go, played on a quick 9x9 board with full rules: captures, liberties, ko, no suicide, passing and area scoring with komi. Black and White take turns placing stones, and whoever surrounds more of the board wins. The game opens with five short lessons that teach liberties, atari, capturing groups and escaping, so your first win comes within a minute.
After the lessons you climb a ladder of nine named rivals. The early rivals use a simple tactical style and give you handicap stones, while later ones run a Monte Carlo tree search that reads ahead, finally playing an even game with komi. When both players pass, the computer proposes which stones are dead, you tap groups to correct it, and the score is confirmed. Atari marks, a limited number of undos and hints, and a capture animation keep play approachable. Each win earns XP, coins and up to three stars for a wide margin. Coins buy stone sets, board themes and perks like extra undos and hints.
Free Play lets you choose the opponent strength, colour, handicap and komi, and Pass and Play lets two people share the screen. A daily challenge sets a fresh handicap game and three daily goals reward steady practice. Tip: stay connected, watch groups with one liberty, and use the corners early.
How to play
Tap an intersection to place a stone. Surround enemy stones to capture them and enclose empty points as your territory. Press Pass when nothing useful is left. When both players pass, confirm which stones are dead and the higher area score plus komi wins.
