Fox and Geese
Hunt or be hunted in the classic asymmetric board game. Play the geese to trap the fox or the fox to jump them, climb a six-rival ladder, solve daily puzzles, or share the screen.
Fox and Geese is a classic hunt game played on a cross-shaped board of thirty-three points. One side plays thirteen geese that advance in a line, and the other plays a single fox that tries to slip through. The sides are not equal, which is what makes the game fun: the geese must work together and the fox must spot every gap. Pick your side before each match and the computer plays the other.
The geese step one point forward or sideways but never backwards, and they win by leaving the fox with no legal move. The fox steps in any direction and can jump over a neighbouring goose into an empty point, chaining several jumps in one turn. It wins by capturing enough geese, or by outlasting the geese when they run out of moves. Six computer rivals climb from Pip, who wanders almost at random, to Old Reynard, who searches several moves ahead. A hint button points out a strong move for a few coins, and undo is free. Every day there is a new puzzle: trap the fox in a set number of moves, or capture a set number of geese as the fox. Coins and XP unlock new board styles, and a streak bonus rewards daily play.
It suits fans of strategy, logic and two-player board games. Tip: as the geese, keep your line solid with no gap behind any goose, and advance in pairs.
How to play
Tap a piece, then a highlighted point (or drag it). The geese step forward or sideways and win by trapping the fox so it cannot move. The fox steps anywhere, jumps over a goose into an empty point to capture it, and wins by capturing enough geese or by outlasting the geese's move limit.
Controls
- Mouse / tap: Tap a piece, then a highlighted point, or drag the piece
- Arrow keys + Enter / Space: Move the cursor, select a piece, then confirm
- U / Backspace: Undo your last move
- H: Hint (15 coins)
- P / Esc: Pause
