Draughts International
Ten-by-ten international draughts with flying kings and mandatory capture. Climb a ladder of seven computer opponents, solve a daily material puzzle, try the quick 8x8 board, or play a friend.
Draughts International is the full ten-by-ten version of the classic jumping game, played on a green and cream board with twenty pieces a side. Pieces move diagonally forward and promote to kings on the far row. Jumps are compulsory, men may capture backward as well as forward, and when you have a choice you must take the route that captures the most pieces. Kings are flying kings that slide any distance along a diagonal and capture from afar, which makes endgames sharp and tactical.
You work your way up a ladder of seven opponents. Cadet moves at random but still has to jump, Corporal and Hopper see simple shots, and Sergeant and Captain search deep enough to spot multi-jump combinations. Major and General play flying kings with real patience. The Board setting also offers an 8x8 quick game for shorter matches. Matches end when a side has no pieces or no legal move, or in a draw by threefold repetition or twenty-five king-only moves each. Every day brings a fresh puzzle from a real position, where a clever sacrifice wins at least two men within a few moves. Win matches for XP, coins, hints and five board styles.
It is a fine choice for checkers and draughts fans who want the larger board, and for pass-and-play with a friend. Tip: pieces that must jump can be forced into traps, so offer a sacrifice when the recapture wins more than it costs.
How to play
Tap one of your pieces, then tap a highlighted square to move it. Men move one square diagonally forward and capture in any direction; kings move and capture any distance along a diagonal. If you can jump you must, and you must choose the sequence that takes the most pieces. Reach the far row to crown a king. Win by capturing or blocking every enemy piece. Beat each opponent to unlock the next, and solve the daily puzzle by winning two men within its move limit.
Controls
- Mouse / tap: Tap a piece, then a highlighted square
- Arrow keys + Enter / Space: Move the cursor, select a piece, then a square
- U / Backspace: Undo your last move
- H: Hint (costs 15 coins)
- P / Esc: Pause
