Checkers brings the classic American board game to a warm wooden board. Slide your pieces diagonally, jump over your opponent to capture, and chain double and triple jumps for huge momentum swings. The rules take a minute to learn, but the tactics keep you thinking for many games.
Captures are mandatory, so every move can set a trap or walk into one. If your piece can keep jumping after a capture, it must continue the chain. Reach the far row and your piece is crowned a king that moves and captures in both directions, which changes the shape of the endgame. You win by taking every enemy piece or leaving your opponent with no legal move, and forty moves each without a capture ends in a draw.
Play this free online checkers game against the computer on Easy, Medium or Hard, or challenge a friend in two-player mode on the same device. Drag pieces or tap to move on desktop or mobile, with every legal option highlighted, plus undo and keyboard controls. Your win streak is tracked too. Tip: keep your back row filled as long as you can, since it stops the computer from crowning kings early.
How to play
Capture all of your opponent's pieces or leave them with no legal move. Pieces move one square diagonally forward and capture by jumping an adjacent enemy onto the empty square beyond. Captures are mandatory and jump chains must continue. Reaching the far row crowns a king that moves both ways. Forty moves each without a capture is a draw. Drag a piece or tap it and then a highlighted square; arrows plus Space also work, and U undoes.
Controls
- Drag a piece: Move it to a highlighted square
- Tap piece, then square: Move without dragging
- Arrow keys + Space / Enter: Select and move with the keyboard
- U: Undo
- P / Esc: Pause
- M: Mute
